Dr. Georgann L. Apgar was born in Oklahoma City, OK in 1962. During her high school years she lived in Colorado, away from her family and home, to train as an ice skater. As she grew older, her interests and attentions shifted from ice skating to science.
Dr. Apgar received a BA in Anthropology from the University of Rochester in 1984. In 1988, she received her DMD (dental degree) from Boston University where she was valedictorian of her class. In 1990, Dr. Apgar received her post doctorate certificate in Periodontology and Oral Biology from Boston University while practicing dentistry and teaching at the dental school clinic.
